Welding Parts Made of AMPCOLOY®
Consequences for Mechanical Properties and Required Post-Weld Processing
Welding AMPCOLOY® components will result in a loss of mechanical properties in the affected area, leaving the material in a softened condition. To restore the original mechanical properties, the welded component must undergo a full heat treatment cycle after welding. This heat treatment will produce surface scaling, which means subsequent surface machining will also be necessary to restore the required finish and dimensional accuracy.
Welding of AMPCOLOY® parts should therefore be avoided where possible. If welding is unavoidable, post-weld heat treatment and surface machining must be planned as part of the process.
