Weld Repair of AMPCOLOY® 972

Repair welding of AMPCOLOY® 972 carries a significant risk of compromising the heat treatment condition of the material, which would result in a loss of mechanical properties.

TIG and MIG welding are both difficult to execute on AMPCOLOY® 972 without damaging the heat treatment and are therefore not recommended.

Soldering is an alternative, but mechanical properties may still be affected.

Before proceeding, it is essential to determine whether the component is mechanically stressed in service or whether it functions primarily as a conductor as this will determine the acceptable level of risk.
