Specific Heat of AMPCOLOY® Alloys
Understanding Cp Values and How to Apply Them
Specific heat capacity (Cp) values for AMPCOLOY® alloys are available in the material datasheets on the AMPCO METAL website. Specific heat capacity represents the amount of energy, expressed in joules (J), required to raise the temperature of one gram of material by one degree Kelvin (°K), which is equivalent to one degree Celsius.
As a reference example, the specific heat capacity of AMPCOLOY® 972 is 0.38 J/g.°K. This value can be used in thermal calculations to determine the energy input required to heat a component of known mass to a target temperature.
