Black Coating on AMPCOLOY® 944

Why Anodizing Is Not an Option and What Alternatives Are Available

Anodizing is an electrochemical process applicable only to aluminum alloys and cannot be used on AMPCOLOY® 944. For applications requiring a black surface finish, a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) based coating is the recommended alternative. DLC coatings can be deposited in black and simultaneously improve surface hardness. To achieve a deeper black shade, a coating thickness on the higher end of the available range is recommended.
