AMPCOLOY® 940 vs. Aluminum for Thermoforming Tooling
Understanding the Trade-Off Between Performance and Cost
Thermoforming tooling is most commonly produced in aluminum, primarily due to lower material and machining costs, as well as reduced weight.
From a wear performance standpoint, copper alloys such as AMPCOLOY® 940 offer superior durability.
However, the cost difference is significant and in most cases difficult to justify unless specific application requirements, such as extended tool life or demanding cycle conditions, make the investment worthwhile.
