AMPCO® 18 in Dilute Hydrochloric Acid Environments
Performance Expectations and Practical Guidance for Borderline Corrosion Conditions
AMPCO® 18 is not generally recommended for use in hydrochloric acid environments due to the risk of ferric chloride formation. However, at low concentrations such as 0.2%, combined with stainless steel 304 or 316 counterparts and an operating temperature of 150 to 200°C, the material may perform acceptably for a period. The customer should conduct trials to determine whether the replacement interval is acceptable for their process. In this type of borderline application, there are few practical alternatives, and a trial-based approach is the most reliable way to assess suitability.
